I would leave it alone, but if you decide to open it up you can easily replace the backing paper later. If it has those springy pieces of metal holding the picture in, be real careful. If nails or those tiny tack-wedges, use something sturdy and flat (I use a screwdriver) to pry the nail away from the picture backing, then grab it with a pair of pliers, twist carefully in place, then pull straight out. Take your time - it's easy enough to drive a tool right through the backing. Good luck.
