I'm definitely not the most impartial, but Ripken is definitely on my list.
My top 5 in no particular order:
1) Mantle
2) Ripken
3) Jeter
4) Griffey
5) Ryan
The prewar stuff doesn't have the larger number of collectors and the cost is prohibitive.
