I recently won a 1958 'Mantle owned by Mantle', hoping to display it along with a 1950's Mantle autograph (at some point).
Someone asked me how I know that it was owned by Mantle. Good question (I accidentally typed "God question", but THANK GOD I caught the mistake
).
I did some googling and only found four cards with this SGC sub-line - one was a Feller.
Does anyone have a list of the cards included in his collection? (or know how to find one). I checked the SGC website and could not find anything.
I found the following in an auction description of Mantle's '56 Feller:
"While baseball cards of Mickey Mantle are among the most sought after sport collectibles of our time; few people realize that the legendary New York Yankee also maintained his own small collection of vintage cards himself. Mickey Mantle had originally planned to display his cards to promote the opening of his new Mickey Mantle Restaurant in New York City. Mantle opted instead to maintain a private display at his suite at the New York Regency Hotel on Park Avenue for the enjoyment of close friends and associates; eventually gifting them to his business partner thus providing this rare opportunity to own a very small number of select baseball cards that were once owned by the “Mick” himself! It is especially interesting to see “who” Mantle collected cards of as they represent some of his closest peers and most talented players of his time."
