Neat story....things were very interesting in this hobby in the early 1980's. Also in 1982, I was at a monthly auction run by Alan "Mr Mint" Rosen.
An ExMt 1953 Bowman Mantle card was up for bidding. Rosen started it at $45. Someone raised their hand. Then Rosen said "$46". I raised my
hand....followed by total silence. I looked around the hall and no one else was bidding on this Mantle. I was surprised, and won it for only $46.




So, that event got me started on completing this beautiful 160-card set.


Incidently, a 1952 Topps Mantle (Ex) at that auction went for $500.
