As mentioned in a prior post, there is a 1971 Steve Garvey in VG that NONE of you would be excited about. But here is one I am really happy about.
LIFE mags.jpg
I actually got the mags from two different eBay sellers back in Sept but took a while to choose frames. For their age (1939, 1941), I found the mags to be in remarkably good shape. Also happy to see there is no mailing label--in fact, the mailing addresses are printed onto the back covers where they don't show.
While I'd definitely put magazines ten notches below baseball cards in terms of things I get excited about, I will say the mags cost me a combined $110, which is decidedly cheaper than corresponding cardboard would have cost...and all the more so if one calculates the cost per unit area!
I am so happy to finally have these about to go up in my office. To me, these are THE two classic LIFE Magazine baseball covers, though I will also someday hope to add the 1950 Jackie Robinson cover as well.
As for my two favorite magazine covers overall, both feature the Hammer. The first is one I have, and the second (June 18, 1959 JET) is one I appreciate any and all leads on.
