Is the writing contemporary with the events described on the ball, or was it written, say, in the 70's?

If it originates from the 20's, then I would most certainly leave it as is, because it represents a kind of snapshot of the era. The writing adds to the overall story of this artifact and makes you wonder about the person who wrote the info on the ball as well as the game it was from.
