Kudos to Zach for this post, which I found to be very informative (I never knew about the C1S designation, its use through 1991, etc.)
What drew me to this, though, is the fact that you bring up an excellent point. The top layer of stock used for '54 Topps Baseball does have an interesting quality...it was
white.
