In top of the 9th inning, Hall-of-Famer Herb Pennock retired the side in order with the final out coming on a fly ball to Ruth in right field by Walter Johnson, pinch-hitting for Zachary- It was Johnson's last appearance as an active player.

Ruth celebrated all night and 'sat out' the next day's finale. Hall-of-Famer Waite Hoyt retired the side in order in the 9th inning of that game with the final out coming on a flyball to left field by Tris Speaker, also pinch-hitting for the pitcher.

'Luckless' Tom Zachary was selected off waivers by the Yankees on 8/23/28 and was 12-0 for the 1929 Yankees.

Further reading reminded me that the home plate umpire who called Ruth's 60th fair was non other than Bill Dineen, who won three games in the 1903 World Series and called Ruth out as he attempted to steal second base thus ending the 1926 World Series.
