D AllenMy son is excited about the new T206 set from Topps because it is something we can collect together from the packs. Actually I think Spencer just collects vintage cards because I do and it is something he can do with me without his sisters interfering. About a year ago he saw me "playing" with my T206 set and announced he wanted to start collecting them. He (actually we) recently completed a group of 9 Cub action poses that we got framed in a baseball diamond style mat. It now hangs in his room flanked by two Sammy Sosa posters.
I have mixed feelings about the T206 set from Topps. I think it is a good attempt compared to many of the other new issues coming out. From my perspective it is a dual message that the vintage card market continues to gain in mainstream popularity and the overall retro move in the US which now effects everything from PT cruisers to Baseball cards. Cutting up Johnny Evers pants and Wagners bat still sends shivers up my spine.
