Don't know what you mean by 'overstamp.' The 1887 tax stamp was officially issued from 1887 to 1897. Another overprinted date would give a more specific date.

In other words, if I read your description correctly, your tax stamp is indeed the correct tax stamp for the trading cards packs, but the same stamp was used for a number of years after the cards were issued.
