Joe D.I would say the closer to the school the better.
It would allow your kid to take part in more school activities... give your kid more personal time for (less commuting)... enjoy the city.... and on those rainy or snowy days - not have to worry how to get to class.
If it is an option... the school itself is in a pretty nice area. I would have your kid stay right there / or Noho / Soho / or possibly Tribeca.... Anything downton.
Find out where the other school kids are going to be - and thats where I would have my kid stay.
