In most sports the ball, or object, is put in play by the offensive team; in baseball the defensive team puts the ball in play, and only the defense is allowed to touch the ball. Americans are nothing if not self-absorbed. There is in fact another sport where the defensive team puts the ball in play, "runs" are scored by a batsman, and only the defense is allowed to touch the ball. This mystery sport is much MORE POPULAR than baseball - there is one country alone where one billion fans - and is OLDER than baseball - you see, baseball evolved from this sport.
