Default Interesting book- When Chicago Ruled Baseball (1906)

Posted By: Bob

Recommended reading for all prewar collectors. Not a lot has been written about this series when the Hitless Wonders upset the might Chicago Colts/Cubs who had a powerful team. The 1906 Cubs would go down in history as one of the best teams ever in MLB and their World Series loss keeps them from being mentioned in the same breath as the 1927 Yankees, 1961 Yankees, etc.
One sad note is that 3 of the players died in insane asylums: 2 of syphillis- Jiggs Donohue the Sox' starting 1st baseman(in his early 30's)and George Davis the Sox' shortstop(HOFer) and Harry Steinfeldt the Cubs starting 3rd sacker. Of the 25 players who played at least 1 inning, 12 died in obscurity.
I also am reading When Boston Won the World Series which is a great read and finished The Year They Called off the World Series (1904) which was recommended to me on this board. Lots of great books around...
