It seems to me that the reason you bid on a '33 Goudey Lajoie has a lot to do with whether you keep it. Dan is a serious collector and even broke his Lajoie out of a slab to insert into his collection. To an investor this would be extremely foolish.
I suspect the reason why many of the '33 Goudey Lajoies go on the auction block so often is that they are in the hands of investors.
Either the investor thinks he can make a profit or he wants to cut his losses.
For card sets that I struggled to complete I have little or no desire to sell.
