Indeed, as Barry said, that was "the start of our beautiful friendship".
Barry had read my BASEBALL CARDS Magazine article (Bob Lemke, publisher); which, I co-authored
with another great friend from North Carolina, Ralph Triplette.
Barry had completed his 1949 Bowman set in 1983 and decided to sell it, so he advertised it in SCD.
I was completing a 2nd set at the time and I needed the Richie Ashburn card, so I called him.....
and, the rest is BB hobby history.
And, Barry's wife and my wife are both Irish, and the greatest of friends.
There are many, many stories like this in this hobby, that really make this hobby most meaningful.
