The ACC updates (in Chris Benjamin's supplement) converted to a system that identified the year as part of the ACC number around 1968, which is a great idea. Why this was not continued is beyond me. You got the manufacturer and the year of issue from the ACC code in this scheme. To quote the Guinness guys "brilliant"!
