Default Ball players that came by their nicknames honestly

Posted By: Patrick McMenemy

I picked up my first E137 last night. It's a 1915 Zeenut of "Tubby" Spencer w/o coupon. After viewing his card, I know that he came by his nickname honestly. Who said stripes make you look thinner?....It didn't work for the Babe Ruth or Tubby Spencer.

The card also made me curious as to when striped uniforms began. Here's a link to a great site on uniforms, and a page that answers that question:

Anyone else have cards depicting "portly" players?
