Mark LWell, no one questions Crawford's place in the Hall--but why elevate him by taking a swipe at Fred Clarke?! As a ballplayer, his competitiveness has been compared to McGraw's and Cobb's. He is a .312 lifetime hitter against National League pitching. And he led the Bucs to four pennants and to 12 first division seasons out of the 14 years he managed the Pirates. I don't think there was a better player-manager in the 20th century than Cap Clarke, so lay off him, eh.
