Default D303 Population...General Baking vs Mothers' Bread

Posted By: robert a

I haven't done as much research as I planned to on D303, but it seems clear to me that the D303 General Baking backed cards were inserted to bread that was sold in the New York area similar to D304. You even see the same three breads on the back of the D304 and D303 GB backs. The main General Baking Co. factory was in Buffalo.

The Mothers backs were distributed in the New Orleans area. There was a GB factory in New Orleans.

(Check out some pics of the factory here: http://louisdl.louislibraries.org/cdm4/results.php?CISOOP1=any&CISOFIELD1=CISOSEARCHALL&CISOROOT=/CCA&CISOBOX1=general

As with all NO issues there are many reasons why these cards didn't survive, but I would assume hurricane flooding is a major contributor to their scarcity. They were probably produced in lighter numbers anyways.

One thing's clear, the NO residents took a liking to the tobaccos, candy and bread issues of the north. They just caught on a couple years later down there.

I'd throw out a wild guess of 10 General Baking D303s for every Mothers back.
They're all so tough it's hard to say.
