One of my favorite players. I'm too young to have seen him play but my father took me to see him pitch a home run contest between games of a minor league doubleheader. During the second game he sat in the stands and signed autographs - Yeah, things were very different then. He had a big stack of 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, picture on one side, career highlights on the back.
Many of the kids made paper planes out of their newly found source of paper.
When I asked him if that didn't bother him he said something like "they're kids, that's the sort of thing kids do" And he stuck around a couple innings after the requests stopped, so I got to sit with him for a while and he explained some stuff about pitching.
