DJDan, you are alright in my books for showing the compassion during the grieving process to bring it to the attention of the board. I truly feel for your situation as a dog lover. All dogs want in this world is to trade their love for a fine life and are amazingly loyal, something you can't say about many people. My condolences to you during this tough emotional time.
