In 1897 there were two prominant Rookies playing in the National League. Both were hitting in the high .300's and were regarded as some of the best players to come along in years. BOTH had problems with alcohol during the year and both were disciplined for their problems. It was written about often that these players had a tremendous amount of potential but would need to stay away from the Bottle. One managed to get his life in order and one did not.
