Default What are your favorite cards of your favorite players?

Posted By: scott brockelman

i have two favorite cards, one prewar and one postwar.

prewar goes to the 1911 obak buck weaver, you have to look hard and long to find a card with greater eye appeal and fantastic color!

postwar goes to the 1952 topps #407 eddie mathews, i could own a dozen of these and never have enough. beats the 52 mantle hands down.

if you look deep into the eyes of both players on these cards you seen the true meaning of the game, pure innocence, they just wanted to play baseball, no hidden pretenses, true each had his downfall, but both loved the game, i never had the opportunity to meet buck weaver, but i have been around the late eddie mathews up close and in person and he loved the game of baseball and his contribution to the very end. like many early players, they didn't do it for the money. yes, some became jealous later on, given the outrageous modern day salaries, but they would still do it all over again for the same renumeration.
