I purchased this ball from a "professional" ball retriever who had an extensive collection of game used balls and had done an abundant amount of research regarding these 1999 Home Run Derby balls. He explained all the characteristics such as the "mudding", players initials (which match any other balls I've ever seen offered from this event), etc. that definitely would relate this ball to one that Griffey hit into the packed crowd at Fenway Park. Definitely a plus to have signatures from the event as well, which can verify it being there that evening. The balls that did not make it into the stands via HR were not thrown into the stands and ended up back into the infield after it had been retrieved.
