Technically she did divorce Johnny but she had no intention of doing so. Out of desperation she served him with divorce papers but her intention was to scare him into coming back home and being a husband and a father. By that time Johnny was already with June and had no intention of going back home to his wife and four daughters and he was also a full blown pill popper at the time. Later when the Catholic church excommunicated Vivian for getting the divorce Johnny got a hold of the archdiocese and explained to him that the divorce was 100% his fault and he left her no other choice.
