In 1911 the Federal Government broke up the American Tobacco Company, the issuer of the T206s, and the American Tobacco Company quit making baseball cards. Does this prove that a T206 was not stuck in a pack in January 1912? No, but it is how the 1909-11 card dating was derived.

There is a lot of documentation about the tobacco companies, their business and advertising practices and legal disputes.
