Phil: I am not sure of the specifics. The person who does picture framing for me is a strong advocate of the conservation approach and everything she uses is acid-free etc and meant to be non-deleterious to the item being framed. She uses rice paper hinges which, if I understand correctly, will securely mount the artwork, can be removed without impairing the piece, and will not be conducive to foxing, mold etc. It's especially critical to frame things in the tropics with an eye to conservation; Hawaii is rough on cardboard.
