Hi - I'm selling this tough-to-find 1888 Kilrain silk.
Description from Heritage, where this was purchased in 2010:
Gorgeous Victorian-era silk was crafted by the famous Coventry, England silk weavers of the Thomas Stevens gallery, one of a series of four celebrating the great bare-knuckle Heavyweights of the late 19th century. Biographical text on verso of the 5.25x7" cardboard mount dates the piece to 1888, just a year before Kilrain was defeated by John L. Sullivan in a brutal seventy-six round affair, the last Heavyweight Championship match to be waged sans gloves. The mount exhibits toning around the edges from a century inside a wooden frame, and what appears to be a touch of rather inconsequential dampstaining, but the silk area itself remains entirely without flaws and the piece presents beautifully.
The backing is loose on one side, so the silk is a bit loose within the mount, but can be positioned to remain in place as you see.
Price is $270 delivered - any form of payment accepted - thanks for looking!
