Default Let's just assume . . .

. . . that the ball was taken, and replacement put in it's place. Perhaps our ball guys could identify the appropriate era that the replacement ball was manufactured in. Further assuming the thief is not too sharp, it's possible the replacement ball was manufactured after 1948. Perhaps better photographs of the ball now in hand might lead to snaring a thief. Just a thought.
