Settling in court does not mean one is guilty; it perhaps means one thinks it easier and cheaper or one is guilty or one thinks they will not get a fair trial or one does not trust some random people to figure out the actual truth. In a climate in which #beleivewomen or #believeallwomen is a popular slogan, I'd probably settle too. The truth does not always beat mass delusion and stupidity, especially when that stupidity is tribally popular.

Being accused multiple times also does not make one guilty. You can find 4 people who will allege almost anything about an unpopular famous person. That does not make it true. Perhaps Bauer is guilty of something, but he is very obviously innocent in the case that has gone somewhere. Where is the evidence he is guilty? We are all perfectly capable of applying an evidentiary standard when it is not controversial or convenient to an agenda. Only when it doesn't serve the agenda is it ignored.

It is sad that we as a people clearly care more about ruining people we have decided not to like than actual evidence, justice, or even basic common sense. Not everyone I don't like is guilty of whatever bad thing is said about them.
