It's a novelty gift. I could see someone buying for a friend as a cool different type of gift. They're paying more for the personal greeting than really a signature.
I can't imagine this would really appeal to an autograph collector. I also don't think this would prevent someone from buying a true autographed picture.

I don't see what's so horrible about it.
I'd fork over $50 to have a personalized iPad wallpaper with audio message from my favorite player. If Rivera was on the list I'd do it in a second.
It's not replacing autographs. Look at the bright side, maybe it will spark an interest in real autographs in kids. That can't be bad for the hobby.
