1. He would have been only 14 when the cards first came out. Maybe it was a way of marking what was his in the family if he had any brothers or sisters. However, I've not been able to find any records of siblings.

2. He actually acquired them later, and used them as business cards. This theory is really thin, as I've only been able to find one card he had a multiple of, and dang it, I didn't get the other one in time.

A lot of the cards I got at first had a tape mark in almost the same place on the back. But two or three of the last ones I've gotten have marks at the card top and bottom, like maybe there was a rubber band put around them, and left for quite a while. I've also wondered why the rubber stamp is upside down on all the Piedmonts, and at the same angle. Was he trying to follow the angle of the artwork on the ad?
