In '81 I waited in a long line at a small bookstore near DePaul (Chi-town) to have Vonnegut sign my journal, and in '82 I sat in on a course taught by Allen Ginsberg in Boulder CO, at the Naropa Institute.
In '85 in a job-hunting trip in NYC lost on Broadway looking out for David Byrne I saw Tom Waits waiting for a cab. I got to shake his weathered hand and tell him how much I enjoyed his music and I think I caused him to miss his cab.
