That is a very good question....and, here is my take on why there are so few Dark Blue portrait Major Leaguers in the T206 set.
The
150 Series comprises of most of the Portrait subjects (59). But, only the Waddell portrait in this Series was printed with a Dark Blue background.
When you get into the
350 &
460 Series, the majority of the subjects are action poses. Here are the few Dark Blue portraits of the Major Leaguers....
Barry (A's)
Chase (portrait)
Dygert
Knight (portrait)
Krause (portrait)
Murray (portrait)
The Minor Leaguers, though, in the 350 series include these subjects with dark Blue portraits.....
