Default Looking for some suggestions

Posted By: will watson

(to the moderator: this is not a request to buy cards. just a request for some suggestions on what to buy)

i am about to sell off my #1 ranked PSA graded Jacques Plante (hockey) player set, and i plan on using the money to purchase one or two prewar cards. the sale will net roughly $1200. i'm looking for suggestions on what to buy, and where to buy it. a few stipulations:

1. i would like to stick to something (relatively) rare- 19th century, or an early 20th century set like E107. preferably a Hall Of Famer. i pondered picking up something like a lower grade T206 Cobb, but they're too common for my tastes. i want to find something that isn't seen regularly on ebay.

2. i would like to stick to graded (PSA or SGC), unless i purchase a cabinet. i know many on here dislike PSA, but i trust them far more than i do myself. i'm not expert when it comes to catching counterfeits/alterations.

my main choice to purchase a lower graded HOFer from one of the major 19th century sets (A&G, Goodwin Champs, OJ, Mayo, Buchner, etc), if possible. what cards could i buy in this price range? i remember a PSA 2 Goodwin Brouthers selling for around $800. this is the kind of card i'm looking for.

if you have any suggestions on what i could buy, and where i could find it (i'd rather stick to a dealer or ebay rather than an auction house), please let me know.
