Jodi BirkholmOddly, the values of Ruth and Gehrig-signed items seem to mirror trends in the stock market/economy. Mantle, Maris and Munson items buck this trend, continuing to incline steadily. I always wondered why this is the case. As Dan mentioned, Ruth is a common signature (as are all the other names I've mentioned), but all have always been in strong demand. The main reason that the market remains constant with the more recent players is just that--they remain in recent memory. Many of the folks buying Mantle and Munson grew up watching them play. You don't encounter too many octogenarians for which the acquisition of a Ruth single is a top priority.
