Both teams were training in Florida in 2001 and Laxton would have likely been in Big League Camp as a non-roster invitee.

Probably spot on. The Royals and Rangers shared a spring training complex briefly years ago. On one of my finest spring training outings I managed to snag George Brett on the Royals side and A-Rod on the Rangers side.
