From what I can tell tese appear to be newspaper photos with the wax pen markings to tell where to cut or post that size of photo for the newspaper printing. The papers kept most of these in their files to reuse at a later date if needed. Usually they have a stamp on the back for credits saying UPS, or AP or some other organization. Most newspapers in the country had these files so they aren't too hard to find. I have quite a few Yankee photos from the 1920 forward. They are a great part of the history of the sport
