Default Intro

Hello,

My name is Jonathan. My brother and I have recently inherited a collection of vintage ephemera, including several hundred baseball cards and I'm managing the process of documenting the collection. The ephemera was collected by a cousin of our grandmother and was passed down to our father in 1986. You can read the fascinating biography of my Great-Cousin at a blog I've set up to document the collection: The Rudy Strejc Collection.

When news of the "Black Swamp" find hit the news recently, my father remembered he had a collection of cards tucked into storage and pulled them out. Most of the cards are in pretty bad shape, but there are a few interesting and rare subjects.

Notably, there are 130 Obaks (mostly T212-2 and a dozen T212-3), 1911 Zeenuts and Pacific Coast Biscuits. Also a handful of anonymous "Set of 30" (in pretty bad shape).

I have most of the baseball subjects cataloged and we have rough snap-shots of nearly everything up on a Flickr gallery. The "other half" of the ephemera is a mash up of pugilists, movie stars, nature subjects (birds) and a large group of "Wings" cards.

We intend to gradually liquidate the entire collection and are deciding which cards are worthy of grading and how to navigate the treacherous waters of card collecting!

I've enjoyed browsing the forums here and gathered just enough confidence to jump into the shark tank. Well, maybe just my toes for now.

PS: Strejc is pronounced "straight".
