Day 287 – 14 October 2024
Today I am showing you a poster from the late 1960s or early 1970s. The poster is White with Purple and Orange sponsored by National Beer. I have not seen another copy but I do not think it is really rare. I always loved hearing “Charge” and enjoy the Orange and Purple colors.

Default 1969 Rochester Red Wings Bank

Day 288 – 15 October 2024
Earlier, I showed you a Orioles version of this bank. The one today I am showing you is from 1969. Instead of the Orioles, this is a version from their affiliate minor league club in New York. This is the Rochester Red Wings ceramic coin bank. The banks were issued between 1969-1970 by Wyatt, Dunnigan, and Williams Inc as a customer promo item for various local banks. The minor league versions are very hard to find. I have never seen one before. The Red Wings were the Orioles International League AAA affiliate of the Orioles from 1961-2002. The bank is in great shape and says Bankers Trust Company of Rochester.

Default Orioles

Some very cool items you’ve been posting. I’m sure it was a great experience meeting Jackson and getting an item signed by him. Also, that’s a great photo of you two.

The Orioles National Beer poster is a nice item especially since it has both the Orange and the Purple colors which was even before the Ravens came to town. Of course the large “CHARGE” adds to the overall aesthetics.

I’ve never seen a Red Wings head bank before. That is very nice and has to be really rare.

Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful collection.

Default 2024 FOCO Brooks Robinson Bobblehead (1970 WS)

Day 289 – 16 October 2024
I am happy to show my new Brooks Robinson Bobblehead from FOCO part of the Cooperstown Collection. This one shows Brooksie holding a Trophy as the Outstanding WS Player for 1970. At the bottom it has 1970 World Series Most Valuable Player and his name below. On the back it shows the 1970 Orioles Emblem with his stats at the bottom (5 games, 9 hits, 2 HR, 6 RBIs and .429 average) but sadly no mention of his glove work, which was amazing. The bobblehead is numbered on the bottom as 118 of 144 produced.

Hi guys,

We made it to Sarasota for the winter. A lot of tree damage in the area around Ed Smith Stadium, but our apartment escaped any real damage.

Many of you know my love for Orioles minor league affiliate items, especially programs. Unfortunately, the Norfolk Tides and Aberdeen Ironbirds are no longer printing programs for their games. They do have scoresheets available at the games, but they're not the same as a program. The BaySox and Shorebirds still do 6-10 programs per season.

One of my collecting goals is to put together a run of programs from all the Orioles affiliates since 1954.

I know many of you, that follow this thread, are from the Maryland & Virginia areas. I know this is a long shot, but hoping some of you might have some old programs kicking around that you don't mind parting with. I probably have 1500+ different O's minor league programs from 1954-present, but still missing a few from the early 2000's.

Here's a list of teams and dates I need to complete a few runs. I'm willing to purchase, even if you only have one off the list. Probably not much value, except to me. Thanks in advance for any help.

Delmarva Shorebirds

2002 - 4/22, 4/26, 7/1, 7/16
2004 - 7/5

Frederick Keys

2002 - 4/22, 5/21, 6/30, 7/11
2003 - 4/25

Aberdeen ironbirds

2016 - 8/12

Bowie BaySox

2001 - 7/27, 7/31, 8/16
2002 - 4/8, 4/18, 5/6, 5/28, 6/10, 6/24, 7/4, 7/12, 8/12, 8/27
2003 - Issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 14, 18, 20
2004 - Issues 2, 3, 4, 5, 13
2005 - Issue 2
2006 - 5/16
2009 - 6/5

Here's some examples of a program from each team. These are small, playbill size, not regular program size.

Default Baltimore Orioles “Plates”

Day 290 – 17 October 2024
Recently added some State Plates to my License Plate Collection featuring the Orioles. The additions include the Nebraska “Oriolz” and Kansas “Oriole” plates. I believe I have shown the other ones before that include from the left top small black and orange Orioles plate which is pretty rare, to the right top 1954 Baltimore Orioles plate (this one is pretty rare and very nice), smaller 1966 World Champions plate, It Can be Done in 61 plate (my favorite and impossible to find) and the small Oriole plate, 1983 WS Champions plate and the other two below it. If anyone has any plates they are tired of, give me a yell.

Default Baltimore Orioles Game Ball 18 September 2024

Day 291 – 18 October 2024
I was at the Orioles – Giants game on 18 September 2024 and lucked into this ball. It was the 7th inning and Gunnar Henderson fielded a hard hit ball by the Giants catcher Curt Casali and scopped it up and brilliantly threw it to Ryan O’Hearn on first for the third out in the 4th inning. O’Hearn then threw the ball over the net into the crowd. I had my phone in my hand and stood up and down came the ball into my hand with the phone…I bobbled it but caught it with the other hand as it nearly escaped me. I still have my soft hands like Brooksie I guess. Ha. My daughter was impressed and got some compliments around me. Pretty cool to get a fielded ball by Gunnar. Sadly, we lost 5-3 but had a nice evening despite the loss.

Day 292 – 19 October 2024
For the next week or so, I thought to share my World Series and ALCS / Play Off Programs and Tickets. Today I am showing you the Program and Tickets for Game 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the 1966 World Series with the LA Dodgers and Charm Cities Baltimore Orioles. There are Phantom tickets out there as well. Everyone knows how we did here. Orioles won 4 – 0 against the Dodgers. The WS MVP was also the AL MVP, Mr. Frank Robinson.

Default Baltimore Orioles 1969 ALCS and World Series Programs and Tickets

Day 293 – 20 October 2024
In 1969, MLB started a Championship Series. The Orioles played the Twins and won 3 games to 0. I am showing you the Program and Tickets for Games 1 and 2 of the ALCS. I am not familiar with the ALCS having a MVP. For whatever reason, I can’t seem to find a ticket for Game 3…always looking! The Orioles faced the Mets in the WS and lost 4 games to 1. The Program and tickets for the 5 games are shown. A Temporary Center Field Pavilion Ticket is also shown.

I found a few more Memorial Stadium Aisle Markers. Recently added#12,#16 and # 18. I found a extra #11 if anyone has one to trade. Always looking for more if anyone has one to sell or trade. Plenty of extra Oriole items to work with.

Charlie,

I've been enjoying your Orioles World Series and Playoff programs the last few days. I think it's a shame the Orioles no longer print programs, especially considering they've been in the postseason the last couple years. Programs and tickets are some of the best collectibles from a game.

The 1960's and 70's produced a wide variety of programs during the Playoffs and World Series.

Here's seven additional programs from the 1966 World Series, the edition from Memorial Stadium plus six miscellaneous programs issued by newspapers and others. Most of these aren't too hard to find. The Equitable Trust scorecard is probably the toughest to locate.

Day 295 – 22 October 2024
In 1971, the Orioles made the ALCS for the 3d straight year facing the Oakland Athletics. As done in the past 2 years, the Orioles swept their opponent; 1971 it was the Athletics 3 games to 0. Today I am showing you the two programs and tickets for Games 1, 2 and 3 of the ALCS. The Orioles played the Pirates in the WS and lost 4 games to 3. Clemente played his heart out.
Today, I am showing you the Orioles Program and Tickets for Games 1 – 7.

Default Programs & Tickets

Charlie,

Really enjoying the section on programs and tickets. While I have a few of both I haven’t really delved into trying to obtain all the variations, but seeing them it makes me want to add them. Thanks for sharing.

Alan,

There’s definitely some of the programs you’ve posted that I’ve never seen before. Cool to know that they are out there and really nice to view. Appreciate the post.

I just saw where former Orioles pitcher, Fernando Valenzuela, has pasted away at 63. Valenzuela is best known for pitching for the Dodgers, but spent the 1993 season with the Orioles, going 8-10.

Here are his team issued 8x10 photo and postcards from 1993.

In 1973, the Orioles made the post season again, but did not have the same luck in the ALCS as in the past. They lost to the Oakland Athletics 3 games to 2. I am showing you the Programs and Tickets for the 5 games.

In 1974, the Orioles would face the Athletics again and lose 3 games to 1. Today I am showing you the Program and tickets for games 1, 2 and 4. I can’t seem to find Game 3 Ticket. The Orioles had some success with the Athletics but the ALCS in 1973 and 1974 went the other direction.

difficult week for Orioles alumni as I heard first thing this AM that LHP Rudy May passed away. Rudy came over from the Yankees in that blockbuster trade during the 1976 season and ended up winning 29 games for the Orioles before being trading to Montreal....

a couple years ago I posted an Orioles game worn Rudy May warm up jacket that I was fortunate to acquire...

RIP Rudy

Default 1979 Baltimore Orioles ALCS and World Series Program and Tickets

Day 298 – 25 October 2024
In 1979, the Orioles faced the California Angles in the ALCS. They would win 3 games to 1. I am showing you the program and tickets for the four games. The Orioles would again meet the Pirates in the WS and lose 4 games to 3. I had the pleasure of attending game 6 but the Orioles decided to lose and not allow me to storm the field. What a sad game. I am showing you all 7 tickets and the Program.

Default 1983 Baltimore Orioles Play Off / ALCS and World Series Program and Tickets

Day 299 – 26 October 2024
In 1983, the Orioles returned to the post season without their HoF skipper, Earl Weaver. The Orioles would win the ALCS against the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox won game 1 but lost the next 3 against the Orioles. I am showing you the 4 tickets and Program. The Orioles would then play the Phillies in the WS where they would win in 5 games. Similar to the ALCS, the Phillies would win game 1 and the Orioles would win the next 4 games to win the Championship. Rick Dempsey was named as the WS MVP. I am showing you the WS program and 5 tickets.

Default 1973 Topps Candy Lids Set

Day 300 – 27 October 2024
As a baseball card / odd ball collector I have tried to collect all sets that Brooks Robinson appears in. That is a crazy task. I have quite a few sets he appears in and have shown some on here (Net54). Today, I am excited to report I completed my 1973 Topps Candy Lids set. This set is a test issue with 55 different players printed on the bottom of a candy lid. This 1 7/8”diameter lid was included with each pack of Topps “Baseball Stars Bubble Gum” part of a small tub of candy-coated gum kernels. Each lid has a pull tab and is unnumbered. These were mainly tested on the East Coast with some light testing in the Midwest. I found Ryan, Munson and Jackson to be the hardest to find. The Mays, too, but surprisingly more available. I will likely upgrade a few still. Included are the 55 lids with my graded Brooks and the Brooks proof graded. Enjoy.

Nice set Charlie. Congrats!
What is that black and white Nolan Ryan next to the Pete Rose candy lid?

This is an update from a previous post where I showed you my collection of Gorsuch House Restaurant items. I previously showed you the framed items including the drink stirrers, menu, napkin, match book(s), business card, and pictures of both Eddie and Brooks Robinson. Today I am happy to show you my ash tray from the Gorsuch House. I really like the orange face with the advertisement / restaurant information. This one eluded me for years but finally found it. Happy to put it on the top shelf in my curio cabinet with some of my favorite Brooks items.

That ashtray is definitely a toughie. I still have it on my want list…

Default 1985 Greatest Moments Orioles Invite Post Card Signed

Day 302 – 29 October 2024
Today I am showing you a post card size post card to Ted Patterson inviting him to the Greatest Moment in Orioles History. There was a exhibition depicting the five greatest moments in modern Orioles history as selected by fans. The Exhibit was open during 21 Dec 85 – 6 Apr 86 at the Babe Ruth Birthplace / Orioles Museum on 216 Emory Street, Baltimore Maryland. I imagine this invite was for the Press Opening on 20 Dec 85. The front of the post card has a picture signed by Brooks, McNally and Etch celebrating the 1966 sweep of the Dodgers in the Fall Classic.

Cool postcard Charles! We should do a 5 greatest moments in Orioles history and share items related after you’ve completed your year of Brooksie.

Day 303 – 30 October 2024
Today I am showing you an updated post previously shown from the News American Paper celebrating Brooks Robinson’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The sign I showed previously. Today, I am adding the newspaper insert celebrating Brooks. The paper insert is 18 pages of information and pictures of Brooks with advertisements. The insert was provided on Sunday July, 13, 1983.

Default 1976 Welches Amoco Baseball Cup Set

Day 304 – 31 October 2024
Today I am showing you the 30 cup set of the 1976 Welches Amoco Cup Set. This 30 cup set features Brooks Robinson and many other Hall of Fame Players. Unlike the 1972 and 1973 7-11 cups, this set does not provide any details about the players on the back. The hardest cups for me to find were Reggie Jackson and Tom Seaver. The picture provides an image of all the cups together with Brooksie at the top center!
