1972 Comspec Pete Maravich
Question to the basketball card experts. On a scale of 1 to 10, how hard will it be for me to find a 1972 Comspec Pete Maravich card for sale. I'm not picky on the condition, just want to know what my chances are. Thanks.

Anyone? Any other "Pistol" collectors out there in the collecting universe?

Jeff, I am by no means an expert, but I'd have to think you might wait a while to find a reasonably priced one. Those who have the card, and might offer it for sale, know what they have, and will probably charge a lot for it.
Having said that, one could pop up tomorrow RAW on ebay. It's a crapshoot basically. I will put it to you this way: when I was looking for one (and incidentally, I still am) I wasn't able to find one. Hope that helps. Happy collecting. Alan. |

Jeff,
There are very few basketball card collectors and even fewer memorabilia collectors in the hobby. I am one of the few memorabilia collectors around, although I don't have much on Pete Maravich. The 1972-73 Comspec card is the hardest one from that set. This card used the same photo as the 72-73 Topps card, and books for around $600. Very difficult in any condition. If you contact me off line, I can give you some names & emails of guys that might have one for sale or might know how to find one. Best of luck, Alan |

Thanks for the help and information guys. There are quite a few Maravich registry collectors looking for this card. A few are very high grade Maravich registry sets with this card being the only one missing. I figured it wasn't lack of $ but lack of available cards as the reason these collectors haven't acquired one yet. Crazier things have happened, maybe one will just pop-up out of nowhere.

Good luck, a 10 for difficulty.
Took me 5+ years to find a Jerry West, Pistol is tougher |

I'll need a whole bunch of luck finding one. I've talked to a few people and nobody has one. I wonder how many of these cards even exist?

FWIW,
Pistol and Hondo are the highest PSA pop @ 7 ea, West is pop 4. Very tough and some deep pockets chasing. I am very happy with my PSA 2, wouldn't mind upgrading, not for crazy $$. My goal is to finish West Master, need a Topps Test, that will cost, have the Kahn's. Last edited by rdimand; 05-23-2010 at 03:52 PM. |
