Default T206 Ty Cobb

What do you guys think about the pricing for T206 Ty Cobb cards? I was under the impression that some of his cards were double prints (red portrait?).

Obviously he is one of the most collected players in his era.

If his cards are so popular (double-printed), then it becomes a case of demand over supply (as opposed to vice-versa).

So my question is what is a "fair" price for let's say a SGC50 or PSA4 Ty Cobb T206? Feel free to list prices for all 4 cards: Green, Red Portrait: Bat On, Bat Off.

I find so many BINS on eBay that are so crazy high......can you buy one of these in SGC50/PSA4 for under $1,000?

Get a green portrait, as it's rarer than the red portrait. Also consider a good looking example of grade good or fair.

In 2009, I picked up the following T206 cards in that price range:

Cobb Bat off shoulder polar bear sgc 40 $712
Cobb red background sgc 50 $1150
Cobb green background sgc 40 $1350

The economy has come back, and I think prices have gone up recently. It takes a lot of patience to scoop up deals on eBay, and you lose more auctions than you win. Avoid "buy it now" listings unless they are comparable to the auction going rate. Good luck!

Phil - according to http://www.t206.net/ in the last 2 years, a PSA 4 Red Cobb has sold as low as $965.
