In 1936 Joe DiMaggio wore #9 for the New York Yankees.
He didn't start wearing #5 until 1937.

Kevin

Congratulations, you are the TRIVIA QUIZ WHIZ this evening.

In 1936, Frank Crosetti wore #5. DiMag started wearing #5 in 1937.

Crosetti wore # 1 in 1937.

Also, Joe was right handed, and it sure looks like he's batting lefty in that picture. (Unless he's just standing there with the bat over his shoulder.)

Thanks for posting the 1936 photo. Check-out George Selkirk (uniform #3), who replaced Babe Ruth in Right-Field in 1935.

Default 1936 World Series - New York Yankees v/s New York Giants

Kinda strange seeing somebody other than Babe Ruth wearing #3 for the Yankees.

New York Yankees ... Joe DiMaggio #9 & George Selkirk #3

New York Giants ... Joe Moore #1 & Travis Jackson #6
