Default Return of significant card shows?

The recent surge in prices and collecting has me wondering if we'll start to see more shows pop up. Or, will it be a fad that comes and goes? I miss the late 80's and 90's when there were shows everywhere.

Default Show today

I went to a card show in Nashville today. Spent the cash I brought in less than 30 mins on 3 T206s and a few 1964 Topps Giants. Show had 40 dealers, 60 tables and there was actually a good bit of vintage. The guy I bought from also had some T3s and two T206s Cobbs for sale - asking $3500/each. Another table probably had 200 raw T206s, but prices were a bit high for the condition. I flipped through a binder of '33 Goudeys, but prices were unreasonably high in my opinion, so I passed on everything at his table.

As long as covid looms, it's going to be hard to have an increase in shows, IMO. Autograph guests doing public signings in shows may take even longer to return.

Hey Donny, that was me you bought from. Nice to meet you.

Can't speak for all dealers but I know that when I set up, I'm not exactly looking to sell everything I bring and I price out my stuff correspondingly (although some dealers, much like some eBay sellers, I truly wonder if they sell anything at the prices they're asking). But for the right price, anything is for sale. You happened to buy things that I had priced to sell. I don't really consider myself a dealer, any money I make goes back in to my collection.

Overall it was a good show and it was fun to actually be at a card show after 6 months off. I sold some things and got a decent deal on a bat on Cobb (see t206 b/s/t).

Default Raleigh, NC show this weekend

I just went to a show at Raleigh Fairgrounds yesterday - more folks than I've seen attend that show in quite some time. They switched the venue to a smaller building, too small for that many people given the circumstances, IMO. I pretty much walked in, realized it was futile to try and keep my distance, and walked out a short while later. I noticed several attendees and dealers with no masks or masks around their chin. Almost every table was shiny cards, with very little vintage, and I couldn't find a T206 anywhere.

At nearly 100,000 cases a day, I think i will stay with eBay and auctions for now.

I think the mid size show with be back once the pandemic subsides. The cost of selling on eBay and postage costs / unreliability will be factors I'm thinking that the 50 table show will do well.

I was an active promoter awhile back and now that I have changed up careers, I'm planning on getting back into it. I'll probably not get back into the active selling of cards.

I know Kyle has another big show scheduled in 2 weeks here in Allen Texas at the Watters Creek Convention Center (literally within walking distance of my COMC office).

We spoke today and he informed me Kit Young, among other important dealers, is planning to set up at the show.

Nice airy room, plenty of aisle space, and an easy location literally just off Central 75 in Allen. Oh and autograph guests on Saturday and Sunday including HOFers Bob Lily and Randy White and probable HOFer Drew Pearson.

Regards
Rich

And since my daughter now lives at Watters Creek I can be even closer to the show if I visit her... The last show or two I went to (Kyles) I felt safe ....

Valley Forge Show Now Cancelled.
With the numbers going up drastically of late along with a New President who will be in office late January I fear of more lock downs and restrictions.

When Will the Chicago National Be Called ? Hopefully not but I’m afraid we might be heading down that path.

Some Good News On Shows...
Nashaminy Mall show is this weekend Friday-Sunday
A longtime vintage dealer who has great stuff will be there buying and selling.
Plenty of open space areas for social distancing at this not so crowded mall. I’ve been several times.
