Default Caramel cards which are bargains right now

Posted By: Bob

I have been noticing lately on ebay, BST and in various auctions that some caramel cards appear to have slowed down or the prices have actually fallen. While E94s continue to skyrocket, I've noticed that low and midgrade E93s, E95s and E96s seem to have cooled off and that E99s, E100s and E103s have lot some of their impetus. E98s have stayed about the same as have the E97s, but the black and white E97s have been selling for about 1/3 of their prices a year or two ago. That really surprises me. My thoughts on the matter is that the release of all those blank backed E93s on ebay has driven down the price of the E97 blank backs and also the E97 black and white "proofs." Who knows? Great for the collectors like myself who are trying to buy them but not so good for people who paid $600-1000 each for PSA 1s (and they generally are all 1s, a few 2s and authentics) a year or two ago.
Anyone else agree with any of these theories?

I do think the E95's and E96's have probably fallen off a bit..at least what I've seen..this is probably the time to be buying them. Also I think it is probably the time to be buying E101's and 102's....I think they have both fallen off....anybody feel differently?

I do watch E95's and E96's and while I agree the commons have slowed, it seems to me that the HOF'ers (Wagner and Cobb especially) are continuing the upswing. I see SGC 20-30's selling for over $2000 now.

I agree that the e97 black and whites have come down considerably. I wish I would have placed bids in Yorktown's recent ebay offerings. However, he got them relatively cheap in the last Mastro auction. E102's also seem to be cheaper than last year, probably due to us set collectors nearing completion of our sets. Then again, the rarities of the e102s are still going for strong prices when they become available.

Lower prices means good things for the collectors. We can now hope that they drop a little more in hopes of picking up a few more. Isn't it great!

Caramel cards shot up so high so fast that a correction seems logical. It's still a market subject to the laws of economics.

Rightly said B-man! With the economy (housing market, possible recession, etc) tipping towards the toilet maybe we can get back to the sanity that cards used to be. Well, we'll proably not get that lucky but we can always hope!
