Default T205 Evans

I was looking at some ebay listings for T205 Cardinals cards and came across this listing for a T205 Evans

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1911-T205-Lo...p2047675.l2557

All of the other Evans I have seen have the traditional red billed Cardinals hat of the era but this card has a diff. colored hat..

Is this a known variation or did this card just fail to receive the red ink?

Is this common with T205 cards?

Looks like it missed a red print run. Very cool. Wish I had seen it.

And as far as being common, no, but it does happen. There have been some good T205 oddity threads going lately...

That card is horribly faded. You can see the red ink remnants on the right side if the bill as well as to both sides of the neck area. Just the drastic fade is all. It could have been subjected to a chemical also by the looks of the back being as dull and faded as the front. JMO of course and maybe one of our resident T205 experts could weigh in on this

Andrew - I saw it, and thought the same thing. That it was faded. One can only make educated guesses based off a scan though.

It doesn't look just faded to me but I don't know T205 (specifically) as well as others.

I agree, it does look faded when compared to others. Yet there is orange on the brim of his hat, I can't believe that if the red had been there at one time that there is no remnants of the lines on the top part of the hat or the brim. I'm no expert either though...

At first, I thought faded when I saw the auction but I agree there might be more remnants on the hat lines, cheeks, etc. I think it either missed a red pass through or the red had run out and was very very light...still a cool card.

I agree with Andrew on this one. "Missing Reds" are the Big Foots of card collecting...with chemical/water staining being the receipt for Gorilla suit costume rental.

+1. Wish I had seen it also and no, I don't think it is fading or alteration, just a missed color run.

The only reason I think it's a fade and not missing an ink pass is because of the drastic fade of the front and back and it looking as though both sides were left out in the sun for a few yrs each side and then flipped. I am not saying its impossible but I would have not bought the card based on a missing ink factor.
