Not sure most people want to post on a public forum where exactly their collection is stored, but the insurance part is important. I have coverage under a Chubb policy for fine arts/collectibles. Gives some piece of mind.

When I had a relatively valuable collection I kept it in a Bank Safe Deposit box and otherwise, didn't insure it. All of the scanned cards were online and every several months I would go visit my cards at the bank, sometimes bringing them home for a few days to fondle them. Did that for 15 yrs and it was fine....but do what gives peace of mind ...

most times its a fire or sewage backing up that gets your cards, if their not stolen anyways. For me it would be, ah well they burnt, time to collect some more.

I purchased a policy through Collectibles Insurance Services. My policy was pretty affordable.

Having to put your collection in a safety deposit box defeats the whole purpose of this hobby

A couple of my more valuable sets I keep in a safe.

I also had insurance coverage for several years through Collectibles Insurance Services, and then a couple of years ago encountered difficulty paying for it online, got distracted because I was just too busy at work, and let it lapse. Probably should revisit the insurance.

To some, like me, it gives (gave) peace of mind so we can enjoy and not worry.

When I had a larger collection I had most of it online so I could see it and then every now and then went to visit it at the bank. It worked fine for me. To each their own. As I always say, do what makes ya' happy .

Default insurance

I have my collection basically on my walls in display cabinets in my office. I have a house alarm system and thought that would be good enough. I travel a lot and always set the alarm when I leave, problem is have some older kids living at home and they never remember to set the alarm.... ugh.

two summers ago my wife tried to cook and burned the whole kitchen down! Luckily I was home and found the 20 year old fire extinguisher (thankfully it worked, took the volunteer fire dept 30 minutes to get to us!). The fire was contained to the kitchen! owned a home for 25 years and never thought that would ever happen to us!

that was scary enough but then I had several work crews in and out of the house over the course of the rebuild. had several workers take an interest in the displays which was nice but also a bit disconcerting.

I work in the insurance industry so was STUPID of me not to have coverage on the collection and the wife kept telling me I better do something about no coverage on the cards.... I was at the National last summer and collectible insurance co was there...

I signed up on the spot, it was so easy to register and get signed up, was fully insured before I left the National and slept much easier knowing I had full replacement coverage. cost was so reasonable for a large amount of coverage!

hope this helps!

Cliff
