Default Big $$

Since collecting pre war, this card is major $$ purchase. I as looking for a nice low grade example, and by a stroke of luck, I happened to email our fearless leader Leon, asking if he knew of anyone that may have one for sale.

He had this card, and was looking to sell it. I bought it back in Jan 2009.

Great looking card in my opinion. Hopefully, I be adding some more big $$ cards from my wantlist in the near future.

Tony

Walking in the park with my kids and Jamie (blunder) txts me and says "HOF BL460 on eBay, buy it".

Bought it without seeing card on the iPhone, took a bit of heat from the wife on the walk home

my most expensive card is a 1986 fleer Jordan rookie (yea a basketball card / my only one) its a BVG 8 with sub grades of 9-8-8-9.5

Took me about a year to find the right one, im sure it will remain my highest priced card till i get to a real nice T205 cobb, or a drum back

That Wagner is a nice looking example. Very clean. Best of luck if you go after the batting pose.

My most expensive is this Arlie Latham Player's League card. The nicest quality picture on an 1890 Old Judge that I have seen. The scan is from my old scanner, looks a little better in person. I don't have many high priced purchased, I'd rather go for quantity over quality.

Greg,
That's a tough spot. It is likely that some of your competition won't be as aware and be willing to "overpay" so to speak based on the incorrect grade. Then again as often as they surface you may have to bite the bullet and go for it.

Barry, those are great cards, I really love the Mathewson.
As for the long talk with the wife, I understand. I was only able to get my girlfriend on board when I was buying a Plank by finally making it clear that if it came to it, I would choose the card over her. It sounds bad, but it's true.
Nelson, sorry I can't post the Plank, but I'm at work now. I'll show it another time.

PS Since the Plank seems to have increased in value since I bought it (2006), she is actually mad at me that I didn't get two Planks (as if that was ever an option for me).

Thanks for the nice comments Nelson, Glenn, Harry and Sean. There is definitely some great "eye candy" on this thread.

I don't collect t206's, but one of these days I need to get myself one of those Planks....

What a great, iconic card! Congrats Nelson and Sean!

Sean- lets me get this straight. You actually would have picked a baseball card over the touch of a real woman? Alright, I'll admit it. That T206 set must be a hell of a drug.

Great cards to all - Barry, Ive spent some time looking at that Matty of yours.

This is mine, nothing will ever top it. I will be paying this off for a little while into 2013 and isnt even my favorite CJ. This purchase was a long talk with my wife as I was outta work for a couple weeks when I made this purchase...I also tend to round down when talking to the wife.

Default Bbce

Don't remember my biggest single card purchase, but I bought about $2500 worth of "junk" from BBCE about 2 years ago. My now ex-wife got an email alert for any CC purchase over $125. Steve Hart graciously broke up the payments in increments of $124 so she would never know. Paid him about $20 extra for the extra CC charges.

Great cards everyone. Was able to purchase the bottom panel shown in this REA link, Cobb/Wagner, with the kind help and assistance of one Brian McQ.
