Default Exhibits Question

After seeing the movie "42" today, I was wondering if Jackie Robinson was the first African-American baseball player to appear on an Exhibit card. I'm thinking it's either Jackie or Satchel Paige. Love to hear from someone who knows.

Interesting question...I know Adam W. would know the answer. I do know that the 1947 cards can be distinguished by the Made in the USA line. Do not remember how but I think there were 64 cards in the 1947 offering.

Good question. I am not sure of the answer. I know that Robinson, Doby and Paige are all in there. Doby has three variations:

Paige can be found with and without the "An Exhibit Card" legend. I think the Doby and Paige were first issued in the same series. Jackie I am not sure about.

There is a thread elsewhere about determining the issue dates. I haven't the time to search it out right now.

Interesting chart, Bob. Not entirely accurate but pretty good.

Not sure on the year. This is one of my favorite cards though.
Sorry, I didn;t quite catch the bottom of the card in the scan.
Edit to add: I used the same website linked above and it lloks like the dates for the issue are 1939 - 1950.
Still don't know.
