From what I decipher is that the OP sent $100 worth of silver to a lady in exchange for a 1952 Mantle, and vintage cards of Ruth and Gehrig.

He never received the cards and the Lady is keeping the money...

...and he is complaining that he is the one that got ripped off.

Yeah, insurance only protects the sender/insurer. There's nothing to compel that person to "make it right" with the potential receiver (presumably out some $$ or trade valuable) except their honor/ethics or fear of lost reputation. I feel for you if your trading partner does not make this right, joepa.

Why do we need to hear this now a year later? To me it looks like both cons got conned !

Did you really expect to get a 1952 Mantle (and a vintage Ruth and Gehrig) for $100? You thought that seemed like a legit deal?

I took it that he sent her $100 face value silver which would be $2000-2300 depending on the price of silver.

+1 Were it possible to write this piece today, the original - and now
deceased - JoePa of Penn St., would likely have better syntax and make considerably more sense than this guy. Oh, and God Bless!

I am sure you took it the wrong way knowing the OP.

I have been dealing with this gobbly goo for years.....

I personally think anyone who writes this incoherently should go back to English 101. I mean we all make mistakes, typos and such, but this mess is ridiculous....

Joepa, sorry you were burned on the card deal. I've been ripped off myself and it is never a good experience. Hope you are able to recover the money.

I'm sorry you got burned joepa. Ironically, the only bad experience I have had on this forum was when I made a trade with you for a "1968 topps game mantle PSA 8" and you sent me a 1968 Topps game card PSA 8 MC and refused to trade back. I guess karma is a b****.

That's a bummer. I'm guessing there was never a scan provided as per the usual Joepa threads?

No scan. I had posted a few items I wanted to trade and joepa sent me a small list of cards he was willing to trade for my item (a mantle/ford signed photo). I had accepted and when I received the cards and saw the MC qualifier I asked for another card. He went on and on about the book value of the cards being something ridiculous and "old77 joepa doesn't know mc stands for miscut god bless" and finally I gave up..

Long story short, old77 joepa (god bless) is really more of a headache than you need.

My synopsis of this member. Over the years you guys don't know the half of it. Sometimes I think I am in Bizarro world.....

Don't get me wrong, I have never had a real bad experience but some of the emails and PM's have been completely incoherent to me. Many times I have just shaken my head in disbelief.

A few years ago at a Net54 dinner there was an older gentleman who went around to every table with a checklist of members' names. Would this happen to be the same guy?

I know another forum member that had just the opposite experience with Joe. He sent Joe a PSA 4 (not sure the year, brand or player) in a trade for other card(s) and Joe wasn't happy with the PSA 4 because he didn't know it had a crease. What do you expect of a PSA 4? There is a reason it was graded a 4 and that's usually a crease. Anyway, Joe wanted to trade back and that other member sent me a message asking what he should do. I told him to blow him off, but he felt bad and actually ended up unwinding the deal. Kind of funny Joe wanted to trade back then when he wasn't happy, but wouldn't trade back with you when you were unhappy.

Well, he eventually agreed to send me a card to replace the lost value.

The 1968 Topps Mantle Game Card PSA 8 is about a $90 card while a PSA 8 MC is around $30. He knew I was a Clemente fan so he sent a beat up 1969 Topps Clemente PSA 4 (about a $10 card) to make up for the difference. When I trade I try not to get caught up on $ value, but I felt a little insulted. I told him this card didn't come close to making up for anything, but old77 joepa (god bless) was convinced this card had a $80 book value or something. I told him to send everything back and he told me I was scamming him.

It was all too bizarre, so I gave up. God bless.
